The best part about this song is that it is only the tip of the iceberg. Apparently Pepsi is releasing a remix album to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the release of “Bad,” and this is just one of many remixes to come. I wasn’t able to find an exact release date, but stay tuned. Sounds like Diplo and A-Trak are headlining remix duties, but obviously there will be other big names as well (Afrojack just being the first released). Very, very excited for this.
The next release is here from the Cypress Hill x Rusko collaboration. More hip-hop dubstep reggae, and I’m into it. Of all the collaborations I’ve seen in a while this one is the most exciting. Check out a video of how they started working together here, and get excited for more songs, an album, and a joint tour (pun intended).
The song is great, video is spectacular. You can get the album here, soundcloud is here.
“Rolling Stones T-Shirt” - Dada Life
Beastie Boys - “Fight For Your Right (to Party)”
Sad news today - MCA of the Beastie Boys passed away after a 3 year battle with cancer. As long-time followers of this blog know, the Beasties are close to my heart.
Here’s one of their early videos from the heyday of MTV.
Rusko’s new album, Songs, dropped recently and it is awesome. This track is my favorite and it rocking my world right now. I like the reggae that’s been thrown in with a number of the songs on the album, and this one is just the perfect balance of sharp aggressive vocals, soothing singing vocals, and the greasiest of greazy that Rusko brings in spades to the dubstep scene. Makes me want to melt my face off sideways and turn my brain into a bass-pudding while my limbs pretzel into an underground rainbow.
This is the epitome of an excellent summer jam. It perfectly combines the fun pop vocals of Dave 1 (of Chromeo) with slightly darker 80’s late night driving synth’d up electrofunk beats. Full-on release is April 30th and features remixes from Oliver and Gigamesh, among others.
PS: The steel drum breakdown at 1’39” is out of control.
New Breakbot
As the title says, with a free download from Ed Banger Records. Mellow and very nice.
Two-fer Thursday
Couldn’t resist putting this up too. Genre sums it up: “Booty Funk.”
Here’s a nice fun pop track from some people and A-Trak. Produced as an ad for Converse sneakers. Whatever.
I have to say, the first time I heard this track I was struck with how similar the “crush” part of the chorus sounds like the Irish Steph song “Crush.” Take a listen:
I’ve been jamming the original as well as the Eumig & Chinon and LBCK remixes for a while. All great and funky, but I think I prefer the original as it’s a little bit smoother and has some scrumptious slap-bass action.
So I am super late to this one, but I stumbled across TheFatRat on Gotta Dance Dirty the other day and the FatRat sound is out of control awesome. One of the few other artists that have managed to capture that turbofunk sound I love so much from Reset!. TheFatRat is a bit greasier and growlier in the bass/a little more electro house but oh-so-delicious. I have heard a lot of “Levels” remixes but this one is head and shoulders above the rest in my opinion, incorporating just enough of the original and keeping an uplifting vibe but funkifying and bangerizing the shit out of it.
He released a mixtape for GDD that is well, well worth checking out even if the last couple minutes get a little off the deep end.
Does not get any better than this. The third installment in the Jet Life series by tropical house master Viceroy is a Wet Blog favorite: “Return of the Mack.” Outrageously tropical, pretty much a perfect summer tune. I can’t wait to see what’s next from Viceroy.
